The Sound of Music will come to life with both lively, energetic choreography and musical staging. You will learn and perform a short dance routine during your audition. 

ROLES

Maria Rainer

(Lead):  Female, Adult -Soprano

A postulant at Nonnberg Abbey. Maria is a headstrong, free-spirited young woman. She is spunky, opinionated, warm, resourceful, youthful, gentle and kind with much determination.  

Age to be played as:  20-30 

Vocal range: B5 to C4 Vocal

Technique:  Belting, Yodeling, Legit 

Dancing:     Good dancing skills.

The Mother Abbess – Confident. Trustworthy. Maternal. Wise. She is the female head of a religious order of nuns at Nonnberg Abbey (soprano).

Sister Berthe – Straight-laced. Sharp-tongued. As Mistress of Novices, she is in charge of the newly admitted nuns. (alto)

Sister Margaretta – Kind. Understanding. Concerned. As Mistress of Postulants, she is in charge of those seeking admission into a religious order, like Maria (mezzo soprano).

Sister Sophia – Rule-follower. Easy-going. She is a nun at Nonnberg Abbey (soprano).

Captain Georg von Trapp – Polished. Authoritative. Sad. Kind. A retired naval captain who holds his children at arms-length to hide his emotions from the death of his wife (baritone). This role involves choreographed physical intimacy of hugs and kissing.

Franz – Formal. Secretive. Cryptic. He is Captain von Trapp’s butler. (non-singing).

Frau Schmidt – Efficient. Strong-willed. Certain. She is the von Trapp family’s housekeeper (non-singing).

Rolf Gruber – Opinionated. Overconfident. Green. He is a suitor to Liesl and telegram delivery boy (tenor). This role involves choreographed physical intimacy of a kiss.

Elsa Schraeder – Sophisticated. Witty. Self-reliant. She is a baroness of wealth and aristocracy engaged in a romantic relationship with Captain von Trapp (mezzo soprano). This role involves choreographed physical intimacy of hugs and a kiss.

Max Detweiler – Charming. Indulgent. A bon vivant. Loyal. He is a friend to Captain von Trapp and Elsa (tenor/baritone).

Herr Zeller – Severe. Humorless. Bullying. He is a Nazi officer (non-singing).

Captain von Trapp’s children, ranging in age from 6-16:

Liesl von Trapp – Confident. Caring. Flirtatious. She is the eldest von Trapp child and has a crush on Rolf, the telegram delivery boy (mezzo soprano). This role involves choreographed physical intimacy of a kiss.

Friedrich von Trapp – Dutiful. Serious. Proud.

Louisa von Trapp – Rebellious. Prankster. Clever. 

Kurt von Trapp – Affable. Mischievous. Gentle. (falsetto)

Brigitta von Trapp – Bright. Observant. Curious.

Marta von Trapp – Sweet. Shy. Sincere.

Gretl von Trapp – Youngest. Darling. Fun.

Chorus roles include nuns, novices, and postulants at Nonneberg Abbey; von Trapp family servants and neighbors; Nazi officers and guards; and contestants at the Kaltzberg Festival Concert.
